Exam format
The exam is scheduled for Wed. Dec. 12, 2pm, in HH239. I have scheduled three hours but you likely won’t need all that time.
It is not fully written yet but the format should be approximately as follows, give or take:
- short answer questions (multiple choice and/or identifications)
- definitions
- short essay questions
- long essay question
- sight passage
There will be choices for most of the questions.
You may bring in one sheet of paper, 8½ x 11 inches, printed or written on one side.
If any of you prepared sample questions for class today, you could post them here in the comments. Who knows? I might use one of them … (if I do, two bonus marks on the exam to the person or people whose questions are used).

Is there a ppt for “sonnets 3″?
No, there isn’t.
What kind of definitions are you going to ask us?
Literary terms, that sort of thing. Nothing we didn’t cover in class.
Can you give us any hints as to what the long essay questions will entail? Will they be specific to certain works or involve larger themes that are common throughout the course?
What makes up the English language? Was it German, French and Latin?
For the definitions, will we be expected to simply state the definition or will it be some other format such as multiple choice?
Jocelyn: There will be a choice in the essay questions. With each question, a choice of specific works will be offered.
Heather: Yes, German, French, and Latin.
Alyssa: State it and offer an example, and why.
What is the percentage of multiple choice to written out answers on this exam? I am having a hard time studying for the exam. There is so much material and it is hard to know what to focus on.
I am also having the same issues…
Wouldn’t be more than 20% or so.
What will we be asked to do for the sight passage? Will it be poetry?
Question for exam: The term literature implies what existence in writing?
Jennifer: yes, poetry.
We are aloud to make up a cheat sheet with the authors names and what they wrote. Can we also put descriptions on our cheat sheet?
Well, I would prefer to call it a memory aid rather than a cheat sheet, but it’s your piece of paper. And since it is, you can write whatever you like on it.
does our sheet have to be hand written? i thought i heard you say it could be typed. so i did, and now im unsure.
Either printed or hand-written. Or embroidered, I suppose, though there isn’t much time to do that.
what do you mean by printed? so i cannot use a computer?
i already did and now i dont have time to write one out.
Printed means printed using a printer, so you are fine.
ohhh, ok. thank you sooo much.
Just wondering about our second paper–will you email us our grade? Or will we just plummet blindly into the final grade given to us on our e-services?
Correction, third paper. Sorry about that.
When can we expect to see the final grades posted?
Thanks.
Still waiting on those final grades…
Are we going to have our final grades soon so we know what courses to register for this semester?
Will we get our second and third essays back? I would like to know how I did on them individually. Thanks.
Does anyone know if Mrs. Jones is still alive because she isn’t answering any of our e-mails?
Alive? Barely.
The essays are in the Hum. and Lang. office ready for pick-up. I’m working on the last of the exams and you should have your grades very soon.
I appreciate your patience.
